Optimized Treatment Effect Through Questionnaire

The Orthopaedic Surgical Research Group is, in connection with a PhD project, examining patients' self-estimation of their health in preparation for optimizing the patients' advantages from prosthesis surgery including hip prosthesis surgery.

The research includes documentation of the patients' attitude towards their own health status, their expectations of having implanted a joint prosthesis and their estimation of the obtained function level after the joint replacement surgery. Furthermore, a doctor makes an objective medical estimation of the patient's health before the operation and the function level after the operation. When comparing the subjective and the objective estimation it is possible to optimize the post-surgical rehabilitation of the patient. With this examination the patient gets a personal advantage when it comes to function level and satisfaction. At the same time it improves the quality of medical knowledge and savings on the economy.

The patients' expectations towards the post-surgical function level and the general patient satisfaction is documented by means of the SF-36 questionnaire.

 

 

 

 



Currently, we are doing a randomized study on two different forms of rehabilitation in order to determine which of them gives the best function level for the patients.
