The Ganz Database is a subdatabase to The Danish Hip Alloplastic Database. This database registers patients who have hip dysplasia and who have been treated surgically. The surgical treatment consits of a so-called reorientation periacetabular osteotomy of the pelvis. This operation is developed by the Swiss othopaedic surgeon R. Ganz and was described for the first time in 1988.
The purpose of the operation is to improve the acetabular covering of caput femoris and, by this, remove the patoanatomic conditions causing development of pain and osteoarthritis in the early adulthood.
The Danish Ganz Database contains data from about 400 registered patients. The database contains data on patient demography as well as pre-operational and post-oprational parameters. These data give the opportunity to evaluate different aspects of the treatment of patients who suffer from hip dysplasia. The current research based on the Ganz Database is, among others, meant to evaluate and compare different surgical techniques, evaluate surgical tools and evaluate the long-term results of treatment with Ganz osteotomy. |
